Friday5 questions courtesy of Scrivener. Thank you!

1. What’s a movie you once liked but is now unwatchable?

Anything with Harold Lloyd.

Beverly Hills was a sunset town. Lloyd fought tooth and nail to keep it that way.

And he was a major perv.

2. What’s a song you once liked but is now unlistenable?

SCANDAL SCANDAL Baby. Love it so much I wore out the CD in my minivan. So. Bought a new one.

A new minivan and SCANDAL Baby.

3. What’s a book you once liked but is now unreadable?

Nancy Drew. The dark blue with orange printing hardcover originals from the nineteen-thirties.

Racist bitch.

4. What’s something you once found unbelievable but whose truth is now undeniable?

Charlie Chaplin is a copycat.

5. What’s something you once found tasty but is now unpalatable?

Unless it is Minute Maid pink lemonade, Minute Maid lemonade with grenadine or maraschino cherry syrup or even a splash of Luxardo maraschino liqueur or lemonade that I squeezed myself, I have to make an effort to drink it. When did I become so picky? Sayonara, Country Time.

Butter. Unpalatable is a harsh term but I am considering getting a freezer to store enough Wisconsin summer butter to make it through the winter. Other things could go in there, too. Like when turkeys are 19¢ / lb. And deer hunting season. Right now I'm good with storing summer butter through the Thanksgiving and Christmas baking season. When you really need it. Way better than imported Irish butter. Imported Irish butter is illegal in Wisconsin. And Wisconsin butter is less than half the price.

In summer, Wisconsin cows are pastured instead of hanging out in the barn eating silage. Summer milk is higher in butterfat. And not necessarily from Holstein-Friesians. Jersey, Brown Swiss and Guernsey cows yield a richer milk. Holsteins give so-so milk. In large quantities. Which is why Holsteins are ubiquitous.

This ain't no rigmarole with flintiness and terroir like when we talk champagne talk. More as when McDonald's changed over from tallow to vegetable oil.

Big difference.

As a busy young Asian woman, I am somewhat lactose intolerant. So. What is a busy young Asian woman to do?

A2 milk. From cows other than Holsteins. The shape of the protein is different or something. Technically, it isn't lactose intolerance that causes tummyaches, it's protein shape intolerance. Or something. Am I being too technical for you?

You know those increasingly rare times when you want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Welch's Grape Jelly, right?

I shop for seedless blackberry jam and send away for marionberry jelly.

And with the marionberry jelly I can make marionberry margaritas. Woman does not live by gin alone. Feel free to quote me on that.

The cheeseburgers at Nite Owl are as delicious as ever but they're closed most of the year, cash only, closed on Sundays and Mondays and barely open from eleven o'clock in the morning until two o'clock in the afternoon. That is the middle of the night to me.

I shall take my business elsewhere.

Blue slushies. What did I ever see in them? Other than a straw?

  1. I would imagine people in your part of the country are particular about butter. I don't think I consume enough of it to be very discerning, I'm afraid.

Also, Country Time has never been actual lemonade. I think its label says "lemondade flavored drink" or something.

    1. Yes but Country Time is necessary for the homemade version of sadly discontinued Hi-C Ecto Cooler.

FUN FACT: I did "an editorial" on the CCTV grade school news report on juice vs drinks.
